a creative, innovative trail in popular culture, and the company

since. In one milestone after another, DC Comics introduced

heroes: Superman, Batman and Robin, Wonder Woman, the Flash,
Aquaman, Green Lantern, and Shazam! This brilliantly illustrated
volume features entirely new, large-format photography of
the original comic books, showcasing the fabulous visual world
of the DC comic-book heroes and artists. |
Adam
Strange Archives, Vol. 1 (DC Archive Editions) by Gardner
Fox
The
latest vintage comic-book character reprinted in the lavish,
hardcover DC Archives series was born when the 1950s "sci-fi"
craze was grafted onto the superhero genre. Adam Strange,
a scientist from Earth, was transported by a "Zeta
Beam" to the distant planet Rann. Acquiring a colorful
spacesuit and a jetpack, he became his adopted world's champion,
saving it from space invaders, when he wasn't romancing
his beautiful Rannian sweetheart, Alanna. His comic-book
hit its stride with the fourth issue, when Carmine Infantino
came aboard as illustrator; his sleek, modern designs and
streamlined figures were perfect for the futuristic milieu. |
Batman:
The Dark Knight Strikes Again (DC Comics Hardcover) by Frank
Miller
This
revision of an iconic character, the sequel to Miller's
The Dark Knight Returns, has been one of comics publishing's
most anticipated events. As installments of the DK2 comic
appeared, controversy mounted. Much sloppier and gaudier,
the strip didn't really resemble Miller's earlier book,
and in the wake of September 11, Miller's in-your-face confrontation
with authority figures upset some readers. The collected
book edition makes it easier to appreciate why he'd take
such risks. Miller sees Batman as an extremist, pushed to
the verge of insanity because he can't compromise his beliefs.
In this continuation, he's convinced today's world is controlled
by powers even crazier and more ego driven than he is. |
Mythology:
The DC Comics Arts Of Alex Ross: 2005 Wall Calendar by Chip
Kidd

stunning new wall calendar based on the best-selling illustrated
book written and designed by Chip Kidd and photographed
by Geoff Spear, DC Comics virtuoso Alex Ross stakes his
artistic claim as the "Norman Rockwell of comics."
Exploding off each page in dramatic fashion are all the
great DC Comics super heroes: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman,
The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, the Justice League, and
more. In Ross' inspired hand, these icons of the comic world
rise to even greater heights of gallant immortality, attaining
in our minds a cultural status reserved only for the gods
of myth. |
Teen
Titans, Volume 1 - Divide and Conquer (DC Comics Kids Collection)
(2003)
The Cartoon Network and WBTV's fine adaptation
of Marv Wolfman and George Perez's '80s-era DC Comics title
Teen Titans comes to DVD in a fun and extras-laden single
disc. The attractive, anime-influenced episodes that comprise
Divide and Conquer are the first six episodes of the series'
2003 debut season: "Final Exam," "Sisters,"
"Divide and Conquer," "Forces of Nature,"
"The Sum of His Parts," and "Nevermore,"
each of which pit the Titans--former Batman sidekick Robin,
Beast Boy (who in the comic renamed himself Changeling),
Starfire, Cyborg, Terra, and Raven--against a horde of regular
foes, including Slade (voiced by Ron Perlman), Trigon, and
many others. |

Challenge
of the Super Friends - The First Season (DC Comics Classic
Collection) (1978)
Challenge
of the Super Friends is the ultimate animated all-star contest
of good versus evil. The original Super Friends (running
from 1973 to 1977--Wonder Twins and Gleek anyone??) was
made up of the greatest DC Comics superheroes fighting together
to uphold justice for all mankind. Overall, it was a pretty
good show, but getting stale very fast. In 1978, the superhero
animation bar was raised high when the first (and only)
season of Challenge of the Super Friends hit the Saturday
morning circuit. Immediately these 16 episodes made up the
best that Super Friends had to offer for one reason alone:
the creation of the Legion of Doom, banding together the
13 most sinister villains of all-time from remote galaxies. |
Static
Shock, Volume 1 - The New Kid (DC Comics Kids Collection)
(2000)
The first six episodes of the Emmy and Humanitas
Award-winning animated series Static Shock (2000-2004) are
collected on this single disc compilation. Adapted from the
much-lauded Milestone Comics title by Dwayne McDuffie, the
series deviates slightly in awkward high schooler Virgil Hawkins's
transformation into electrically charged superhero Static
(another change is the fact that Virgil's mother is dead as
of episode 1, "Shock to the System"), but the episodes
maintain the original comic's sophisticated blend of action
and socio-political issues, which are well handled by the
writers and vocal cast. |
Batman
- The Animated Series Volume 1 and 2 (DC Comics Classic Collection)
Availability: This item will be released on January
25, 2005. You may order it now and we will ship it to you
when it arrives. |
Superman
- A Little Piece of Home (DC Comics Kids Collection)
This is like a "Greatest Hits" or sampler
of the entire SUPERMAN animated series from 1996-2000. The
upcoming January release of Season One will only cover one
of these episodes, so it's a good way to tide you over until
all the sets come out. |

The
DC Comics Guide to Inking Comics
Simply put, this is the best book on inking I've
read. Don't waste your money on other books, buy Jansen's
and Miller's and learn everything you need to know. The book
doesn't stop with instruction on techniques, tools, and materials,
but gives you some great tips such as why you should keep
your ink bottle in an ashtray!

Wonder
Woman Organizer
Wonder Woman is my idol. I've loved her, lived her,
and now can organize in her honor. The organizer itself is
well made and nicely designed. The material seems to hold
up well (but I don't suggest too much rough handling--gentle
hands!) and the binder is stocked full of paper for the upcoming
year. Like most things in Chronicles line of Wonder Woman
products the organizer uses artwork from Wonder Woman's silver
age adventures and a few modern era pieces. It helps keep
the overall look cute and fun. |
The
Marvel/DC Collection - Crossover Classics, Vol. 3
This is about five crossover stories that all feature
Marvel characters but not all are DC heroes pre say, there
are two stories where Gen 13 is involved and they were originally
created at Image Comics (but has since broken off into various
units, and one group went to DC). |
Wonder
Woman Fold and Mail Stationary (Fold and Mail Stationery)
Not only is this item cool because it pays tribute
to one of the most awesome super heros ever, but it is also
one of the most fun and convenient stationary sets ever. It's
fantastic for writing a short note to someone, or maybe even
including a photo or something. No envelopes are necessary,
as the paper folds and has lickable adhesive that seals itself.
I've had many compliments from friends who have recieved one
of my Wonder Woman special deliveries. Great buy!

Batman
Archives, Vol. 1 (DC Archive Editions)
This is a fascinating volume in that it shows the
first couple of years of Batman stories from Detective Comics.
It begins with his first appearance as well as containing
his origin story in a later issue and the first appearance
of Robin the Boy Wonder. Bob Kane's Batman as portrayed in
Batman Archives Volume 1 is a very dark creation at first.
The violence is quite intense as Batman's foes end up being
pierced through, necks broken or falling to their deaths,
if not actually shot with the gun Batman sometimes carried
at his side. |
